Admissions
Who Should Apply?
If you are a neurodivergent student who:
- Wants to learn more about the people, possibilities, and problems in our world,
- Wants to learn more about neurodiversity, and how it applies to you, and
- Wants to have meaningful, mutually supportive friendships with like-minded peers and caring adults
then Temple Grandin School might be the right learning environment for you! But you have to want to be here, and be willing to accept support and guidance from adults who care about you and want you to succeed.
If you are the parent of a neurodivergent student who:
- Sees your student’s potential, and are looking for flexible partners who can help them realize it
- Sees what’s not working in your student’s current school, and are ready to support your student in trying something new
- Seeks to share the joys and challenges of neurodiversity with other families traveling the same journey
then Temple Grandin School might be the right community for your student and family. Talk with your student about TGS, and contact us to learn more about how we work with students and families like yours. We’re passionate about these students, and want them to find a school that works. If school’s got you stuck, our application process can help you move forward, even if you don’t choose to send your student to TGS.
Application Process
Step 1
Meet your Admissions Guide & Problem-Solver (GPS), who will guide you through the process and troubleshoot any problems you encounter along the way.
Step 2
Schedule a tour.
Come as a family to join us for Morning Meeting or lunch. We’ll show you around campus, tell you about our socio-academic programming, and answer any questions you may have.
Step 3
Complete our admissions application. Follow the checklist provided and give us all the information we’ll need to really understand what your student needs from a school. If we’re not a fit for your student, we’ll tell you. If we think we’re a match for your student’s learning needs, we’ll use everything you’ve shared to start building your student’s program.
Step 4
Come try us out.
Bring your student for a three-day visit to see how we learn and how we play. Encourage your student to show us their authentic self, to connect with other students, to ask for help and see what happens. Ask your student “Can you see yourself at TGS?
Step 5
Make a decision.
If TGS seems like a good fit for your student, we’ll prepare a contract for your student to enroll. We’ll also ask you and your student to reflect on where they are in their journey toward independence and what they’d like to work on first when they get here. We’ll share some things we noticed during your student’s visits, introduce them to their long-term GPS adult, and make sure all systems are go for your student’s first day at TGS.
